Summary:

To optimize patient flow in the Emergency Department, we developed a custom heatmap using arrival and departure data to visualize patient census trends. This analysis pinpointed peak times—both days and hours—when patient volumes were highest, enabling nursing and physician assistant leadership to realign staffing to better match demand. This adjustment led to a 5% reduction in LOS, significantly improving patient throughput. Following its success, the solution was adopted across multiple institutions, boosting operational efficiency and reducing wait times hospital-wide.
